Lent Encounter Groups

Lent 2020: Face to Face with Jesus

During the season of Lent, which begins with Ash Wednesday, February 26, the theme of being Face to Face with Jesus will be the preaching focus for Sunday worship and Wednesday Midday Prayers. Additionally, clergy and staff will lead Encounter groups for further reflection. The Sunday morning preaching series and Encounter Groups will focus on six face-to-face encounters people have with Jesus in the gospel stories.
Week 1: Matthew 4.1-11; Jesus and the Tempter
Week 2: John 3.1-7, Jesus and Nicodemus
Week 3: John 4.5-42, Jesus and the Woman at the Well
Week 4: John 9.1-41, Jesus and the Blind Man
Week 5: John 11.1-45, Jesus and Lazarus
Week 6: Palm/Passion Sunday: Jesus faces Jerusalem

The Encounter Groups are weekly small group experiences that delve deeper into the preaching texts and our encounter with them as individuals and a community. These one-hour groups will examine the six face-to-face encounters Jesus has in the gospel preaching texts from Sundays and how we encounter those texts from the contexts and stories of our lives. All Encounter Groups will meet at the Penn Street campus.
