Welcome Team for Refugees
Then the king will say to those at his right hand, “Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” Matthew 25:34-36
A First Presbyterian Church Welcome Team, in collaboration with Refugee Services of Texas is preparing to welcome a refugee family to Ft. Worth. Refugee Services of Texas is a social services agency devoted to the resettlement of refugees in Texas. They are affiliated with Church World Service of which PC(USA) is a member. The Welcome Team will set up a home and serve as welcome and cultural liaisons as the family adjusts to life in the US. Our first goal is to furnish a home for our new friends. Everything -from beds to a toaster- is needed!
About FPC's First Refugee Family
After months of training and preparation, our congregation, FPC welcomed a refugee family assigned to us from Refugee Services of Texas on July 18. The family of six is from Syria were greeted by volunteers from First Presbyterian Church at the airport. While we will learn more about the family and their story as we get to know them through our three-month partnership, we do know that they have 2 pre-school boys, a six year old girl and a 10 year old boy.
Our Welcome Team will coordinate our congregation’s efforts and activities with our refugee family. Many of you have donated items to help furnish their apartment - thank you! If you are interested in this welcome ministry, please contact Robyn Michalove to see what needs we currently have. Thank you for your generosity and please join us in praying for safe travels for our new friends.
