Response to Hurricane Harvey

Response to Hurricane Harvey

Like all of you, I am still reeling from news and images coming from our state's coast in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The devastation is wide and the effects on countless lives will continue for a long time to come. Below outlines information about how First Pres is responding and how you can give through the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Let's join together to engage our neighbors hurting and in need today.

-- Karl Travis, Pastor

What is PDA?

The Presbyterian Church (USA) has long been a leader in Christian disaster and relief ministry. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is our shared effort to alleviate misery and to meet basic need amidst the worst kinds of emergencies. PDA has a unique role in disaster assistance, too. After other relief agencies have helped with immediate needs, PDA seeks partnerships with local people in long term recovery efforts. Already, PDA is projecting a 3-5 year footprint in helping the victims of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance has already mobilized its previously trained relief leaders who will begin their work on Wednesday with leaders from Mission and New Covenant Presbyteries. Click here for up to date information on PDA’s efforts.

How to GIVE to PDA

Though it is possible to give online, at First Pres we love to funnel PDA donations through our church office. This way, we know how First Pres members and friends are responding. Please make your PDA donation by writing a check to First Presbyterian Church and marking “PDA” in the notation line. We’ll get it where it’s going, and soon.

Other Ways to Give: In-Kind Donations

Donations of certain items are also very much needed and can be given through the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) offices here in Fort Worth. Check here for current needs. NOTE: Please DO NOT take donated items to shelters, as they do not have the staffing or storage to support such donations. When specific donations are needed, that request will be shared here.

What Else Might We Do?

If we learn that our Gym is needed to house Harvey evacuees, we will mobilize quickly to meet the need. Stay tuned because such an effort would require all of us.
