Columbarium and Memorial Garden
Caring for its families following the death of a loved one is an important ministry of First Presbyterian Church. To this end, FPC is pleased to announce the completion of its newest space, the multi-purpose Columbarium, Memorial Garden, and Labyrinth. The space is located along the north side of the FPC Penn Street campus.
About the Columbarium
Individual niches house the cremains of those who choose to be inurned. Their names, and birth and death dates, are engraved in beautiful, black granite. Loved ones may return time and again and sit on nearby benches within easy sight of their beloved's resting place. In years to come, additional niches will be added as they become needed.
About the Memorial Wall and Garden
For those whose cremains are interred in the earth, or cast upon the surface, a Memorial Wall records their names, and birth and death dates. Engraved in polished black granite to match the Columbarium, the Memorial Wall is permanently mounted to the wall of the church, adjacent to scenic gardens, whose year round maintenance is provided in perpetuity.
About the Labyrinth
With stunning views of the city, visitors walk an eleven-circuit labyrinth set permanently at the west end of the gardens. Labyrinths are ancient geometric patterns intended to stimulate experiences of deep prayer and soulful contemplation. The labyrinth is a centuries old walking meditation that encourages a deeper connection to God. This symbolic journey creates an opening to receive spiritual sustenance.
